Adoption: A Family Choice African American Childrens' Hair & Skin Care
Wash Hair as Often as Needed.
A young lady recently emailed me about her opinion based on her own experiences. I love it when people write me about their experiences. I have heard before about only using conditioner between shampoos, as a way to freshen up the hair, and keep it soft. Anyway, here is her post:
I am a young AA lady who just happened upon your website and I was ready some of the post that were on there. I just had to respond to one of the post I saw. The post was titled "More hair ideas" and the lady stated that she asked an AA woman what to do with her daughter's hair and the lady erroneously told her that AA's hair should not be washed more than once every two weeks. This is an absurd and gross misconception about AA hair. True, our hair is the most driest of all races but not washing it does not help it at all, in fact it hurts our hair more.
AA hair can be washed AS OFTEN as needed, even everyday AS LONG AS IT IS PROPERLY MOISTURIZED afterwards! If you think about it, what's the best moisturizer......WATER. After washing AA hair it is imperative to use a cream moisturizer or cholesterol to soften the hair. You can also do conditioner washes. This is where you just rinse the hair and apply conditioner for a certain amount of time and then rinse out. This is when your daughter's hair is dry but it's not dirty. Please tell the lady that posted this to stop waiting soo long to wash her daughter's hair because this AA lady terribly miseducated her.
