Tricia: Maintaining Healthy AA Hair for Toddlers
I'd like to add advice for maintaining healthy AA hair for toddlers as follows:
Pure cold press olive oil is a great everyday moisturizer. It's not sticky. It doesn't smell. It's naturally light in feel and inexpensive.
I have two AA daughters with different hair types. My oldest (age 31/2) has hair like me...dry, thick, tight little curls and lots of it! My little one has hair like her dad...not as dry, thick, big wavy curls and lots of it!. We all have chemical free hair.
Though my hair is natural I find a good hair dryer gives me the versatility in hair styles I like. I can wear my hair in an afro style or straight with no problem because I use olive oil and Kera Care Silken leave in contioner.
The process is even more simple for my girls. Before my daughters go to bed I put olive oil in their hair and on their scalp with a little spray of water of course (only enough to work the oil evenly through their hair but not enough to overly dampen it, usually about three light sprays) then I brush their hair while the lights are dim and we listen to smooth jazz or other soft music on the radio.
During the winter months I add a little B&B Super light oil to their hair (not the scalp.. only olive oil on the scalp) as well.
We enjoy swimming at least once or twice per week during the winter and summer. Paul Mitchell Super Moisture shampoo & conditioner or any Kera Care products for Black hair care (usually found at any JC Penney Salon) are great!
Well, I hope this info helps someone.
